India have bid to host Asia’s largest football tournament with 4 more countries including Qatar, Iran are also in claim
A total of five countries, including India, have bid to host Asia’s biggest football tournament. Apart from India, Qatar, Iran, Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia are also among the hosting contenders. All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Praful Patel and Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju were also present at the press conference held during the official bid.
The last date for bidding to host the AFC Asian Cup 2027 is 18 December 2020. The country that will host the AFC Asian Cup 2027 will be announced in 2021.
Iran and Qatar have hosted Asian Cup twice
Qatar hosted the tournament in 1988 and 2011 while Iran hosted it in 1968 and 1976 and also won the title both times.
India will host 2022 Woman Asia Cup
India has also been handed the hosting of the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup last month. At the same time, India has hosted the Under 17 Boys FIFA World Cup. While the hosting of 2020 FIFA World Cup Under-17 Woman was also handed over to India. However it has been postponed due to corona virus. It will now be held in 2022.
