2024 COPA AMERICA Team Analysis: Brazil Squad and Probable Lineup

Brazil Football Team

While Los Ticos defeated Grenada 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier earlier this month, Brazil played to a 1-1 draw with the USA in their final warm-up match before to this event.

Brazil always expects to win when they compete in a major competition of any kind, and this time is no exception.

The Brazilians have reached the final in their past two tournament appearances; but, in the most recent US edition, they did not go past the group stage for the first time since 1987.

After Carlo Ancelotti decided to stay with Real Madrid, Dorival Junior was brought in to coach this side in January. In his four games in command of the national team, the man who led Flamengo to the 2022 Copa Libertadores title is undefeated.

Since being defeated 2-0 by Mexico in a friendly played in the United States in June 2012, Selecao has not lost a game against a CONCACAF opponent in more than a decade.

Although Junior’s initial tactics have been somewhat better than those of his disastrous predecessor, Fernando Diniz, this Brazilian team is nothing like the one Tite oversaw from 2016 to 2022, giving up six goals in their last three games.

They are unbeaten in seven straight games in this round of the competition after losing their last Copa America group encounter against Peru in 2016 (1-0).

Los Ticos, who have won their first two games by a total score of 7-0, are off to a strong start in their quest for a fourth consecutive World Cup appearance.

Best Forward

Vinicius Jr. won his second Champions League title this year. He has more than 30 goal contributions for Real Madrid this season in all competitions. He is the top favourite to win the Ballon d’Or if he manages to win Copa America as well.

Best Midfielder

Bruno Guimaraes is one of the best midfielders in the world. He was one of the key players in Bayer Leverkusen’s sensational unbeaten run throughout their 2023/24 campaign. Bayer had a great opportunity to win a treble but they lost 3-0 to Atalanta in the Europa League final this year.

Best Defender

PSG captain Marquinhos is one of the best defenders in the world. Just because he plays in Ligue One, doesn’t mean he is a mediocre defender. His world-class defending skills helped PSG reach the 2023/24 Champions League semi-final.

Best Goalkeeper

Alisson
