Napoli have been far from faultless in Serie A this season, but they won their fourth league game of the season on Saturday with four unanswered goals against Lecce, giving them 14 points from seven games.
Rudi Garcia’s men are third in Serie A, four points behind champions Inter Milan, and have won three of their past four matches in all competitions, including a 2-1 victory over Braga in their Champions League debut.
Braga tied the game at 1-1 in the 84th minute on September 20, but an own goal by Sikou Niakate in the 88th minute gave Napoli a crucial win to kick off their 2023-24 European season.
The Blues reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season, their best-ever showing in the competition, and they will be hoping to progress out of the group this season, with the section’s two favorites facing off in this encounter.
Napoli previously encountered Real Madrid in the round of 16 in 2016-17, with the Spanish giants winning 3-1 both at home and away to advance to the next round on a 6-2 aggregate score.
