Raphael Varane was so confident that he choses to speak English in his first interview
Raphael Varane has officially been announced as Manchester United player after having a great presentation on the first matchday. Even though he is French, his English speaking skills are so impressive.
Varane has done his first interview as a Manchester United player in English. He refused to do his first part of it in his native French which impressed the fans on social media.
During his Madrid stint Varane lead the team towards four Champions Leagues. He started every game in France’s journey to winning the World Cup in 2018.
Recently he spoke with Man Utd and revealed why it was important for him to do his first interview in English: “It’s difficult for me to do this interview in English, but I have to try!
“I think it’s very important to be close to the fans because we have the same objective – it’s important for me to be comfortable with my team-mates and with the coach.”
The 32-year old added: “This opportunity [to join Manchester United] was amazing for me, so I chose this change for me and my family.
“They have come with me. You feel when things are a good moment and this was the right moment.
“I’m very happy and very excited to start this new journey for me. It was a very good adventure with my old club, but now it’s a new start for me and I’m very happy to be here.”
