Roy Hodgson was ‘taken unwell’ after a training session on Thursday, thus Crystal Palace cancelled a press conference.

Hodgson was scheduled to address the media prior to Monday’s relegation six-point match between Palace and Everton.

The 76-year-old was expected to be questioned about his future due to rumours that Palace intends to fire him and replace him with Oliver Glasner, a former manager of Eintracht Frankfurt.

But just before the scheduled news conference, Palace released a statement indicating that it had been postponed.

“Unfortunately, today’s press conference will no longer take place as scheduled as Roy Hodgson was taken ill during this morning’s training session,” read a club statement.

Hodgson was unwell earlier this season and missed Palace’s 3-1 loss to Aston Villa in September. That day, the team was led by first-team coach Ray Lewington and assistant manager Paddy McCarthy.

Hodgson’s presence in the dugout for Palace’s match against Everton at Goodison Park the following week is uncertain. In March, Hodgson announced his retirement in order to assume leadership of Palace for a second time after Patrick Vieira was fired.

After leading them to an 11th-place Premier League result the previous season, he was named manager of the team permanently for the 2023–2024 season.

After only six league victories this season, Palace has struggled and is currently in 15th place, only five points above the relegation zone.

Earlier this week, Hodgson managed his 200th game as Palace’s manager, but his team lost 3-1 at Selhurst Park to Chelsea, who had a brace from former Eagles player Conor Gallager.

According to reports on Thursday, Glasner is the clear frontrunner to succeed Hodgson at the south London club, and Hodgson is about to lose his job.
