This article will tell you about how Cristiano Ronaldo created the most iconic celebration of all time

Cristiano Ronaldo, now 38, is famous for his iconic jump in the air and swivel maneuver, which is complemented by his exclaiming “Sii” after scoring a goal. He now does the distinctive celebration on a regular basis, but it was supporters in America who first saw it.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner disclosed the now-classic technique while playing for Real Madrid in a friendly against Chelsea on the YouTube channel Soccer.

Ronaldo recalled: “Well, I was in the US and we played against Chelsea and I don’t know where it came from. I just scored and I went, ‘Sii!’

“But it was natural, to be honest.

“After that, I started doing it and I feel like the fans, when they see me they’re like ‘Sii’ and I was like, ‘wow, people remember Cristiano because of the Sii,’ so I continued like that.”

That day in 2013, Ronaldo scored twice for Real Madrid as they defeated Chelsea 3-1 to win the International Champions Cup.

After goals from Marcelo and Ramires, the former Manchester United great, who informed old teammate Nani he would finish his career in the MLS, smashed home a 25-yard free-kick for the first of his two goals.

But it wasn’t until his second goal, a bullet close-range header, that Ronaldo performed the first version of his ‘Sii’ celebration, without swivel.

When he won the Ballon d’Or in 2015, the forward made headlines for screaming the slogan, which simply means “yes” in Spanish.

In the same interview, Ronaldo revealed that Portugal star Eusebio was the only player he wished to play alongside during his career.

He added: “In my mind, I have many players I wish to play with, but I’ll mention one from my country who died a few years ago – Eusebio.

“He’s one of the sons of Portugal and I wish to play with him because he’s Portuguese.

“He was an unbelievable person and I wish I could play with him in the national team.”
