What jersey numbers are available to Cristiano Ronaldo in Manchester United?
Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Manchester United in a sensational move from Juventus. United announced his ‘homecoming’ on 27 January.
According to some reports, the 36-year old will play his first match against New Castle United on 11 September. But which number will he wear if Premier League doesn’t allow him to wear number 7?
Edinson Cavani is the current holder of number 7 for United. The Uruguayan striker is ready to give his jersey number to Ronaldo if he asks for it.
“When I arrived at United, I asked for 28 but the coach said, ‘No, you will wear 7,'” said Ronaldo via The Mirror.
“I was petrified as I knew Beckham wore that shirt. But I took on the challenge and since then it has been my lucky number. I have won everything in football with the shirt.”
However, if Premier League doesn’t allow Ronaldo to wear number 7 then he have two other options to choose from.
- The number 28 which he himself asked for when he first came to United.
- The number 9 which he wore during his first stint with Real Madrid.
One thing is for sure, Ronaldo will wear the number 7 jersey if not for this season then surely from the next season.
