7 changes in India’s squad compared to the 2019 ODI World Cup

India announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming home World Cup. India announced a strong squad for the mega event at home and they will give their everything to lift the trophy in their home. There are some players who miss out on the squad and in this article, we will see 7 changes in India’s World Cup squad from the previous edition.

  1. India changed their opening combination. Captain Rohit Sharma will now open with Shubman Gill whereas in the 2019 World Cup, it was Shikhar Dhawan who was the first-choice opener with Rohit.
  2. Siraj took the place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the third pacer along with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami.
  3. Fans are not happy with Yuzvendra Chahal not being selected for the World Cup instead, Axar Patel got selected for the World Cup as the third spinner.
  4. In 2019 Vijay Shankar was named as bowling all-rounder with Hardik Pandya who is now replaced by Shardul Thakur as fourth pacer and second all-rounder.
  5. Rishabh Pant was there in 2019 for middle order but due to his unfortunate accident he is not available for the team and Shreyas Iyer has taken his place in the middle order.
  6. Substitute wicketkeeper has also changed as it was Dinesh Karthik in 2019 and it will be Ishan Kishan in 2023.
  7. Mayank Agarwal was also included in the squad as an opener option and for middle order position but now he is replaced by Surya Kumar Yadav.
