Everything was going good but one innings against Saurashtra changed fortunes for him. He struck a fantastic 87 in just 69 balls in a Ranji Trophy game to grab all the limelight. This also landed him the opportunity to captain the U-19 World Cup team which finished runners-up in 2016 in Bangladesh. His contribution with the bat wasn’t much but his craving for runs never died. Ishan bounced back even harder with even better performances in the domestic circuit. He went onto score a swashbuckling 273 against Delhi, which eventually got him a call-up for the Indian T20 League. Gujarat Lions acquired the services of this talented youngster.
