New Zealand’s pacer Matt Henry is currently facing uncertainty regarding his availability for the Champions Trophy final against India, scheduled for March 9, 2025. He sustained a shoulder injury during the semi-final match against South Africa on March 5, where he landed awkwardly while taking a catch. Despite returning to bowl later in the match, concerns about his fitness have emerged as the final approaches.
Head coach Gary Stead has indicated that while scans have been conducted and they are hopeful for Henry’s recovery, his condition remains unclear less than 48 hours before the final. Stead mentioned, “The positive is that he managed to get back out there to bowl… but at this stage, it’s still a bit unclear” regarding Henry’s readiness for the match.
If Henry is unable to play, New Zealand has Jacob Duffy as a potential replacement. Duffy has not yet participated in the tournament but was included in the squad as a backup option after Lockie Ferguson’s injury.
