Obstructing the field is a very unique way of dismissing a batsman. If a batsman comes into the way of a throw or somehow manipulates the game with his actions, it is considered as obstructing the field. In this article, we will tell you all obstructing the field dismissals in IPL.

#1 Yusuf Pathan

Former Indian all-rounder and very explosive batsman of his time, Yusuf Pathan was the first player in IPL who was dismissed by obstructing the field rule. In the 2013 season in a match against Pune Warriors India, Yusuf Pathan was playing for Rajasthan Royals.

Yusuf was given out when he kicked the ball with his legs when the bowler was trying to grab it. Umpires found Yusuf Pathan’s action intentional and they gave him a red signal for his action.

#2 Amit Mishra

The second obstructing the field incident occurred in 2019 in Vishakhapatnam in a match between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was Indian veteran spinner, Amit Mishra who was given out for obstructing the field.

Khaleel Ahmed was bowling for SRH and in one of the balls he grabbed and made a throw to the non-striker’s end, Amit Mishra intentionally game in the ball’s way and was given out by the umpires.

#3 Ravindra Jadeja

Third obstructing the field dismissal is the most recent one. In a match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings in Chennai in IPL 2024, Indian spin all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja was running for a double, his companion Ruturaj Gaikwad denied the double but Jadeja was halfway through the pitch. Captain and wicketkeeper Sanju Samson collect the ball and three it towards Jadeja’s end.

Jadeja came in between Sanju’s throw and intentionally tried to open up his hands to avoid Sanju’s throw. The umpire found Jadeja guilty and he was given out.
