2021 was full of cricket. We saw cricket redevelop after devastating 2020. In this span of one year, we saw many moments which we all cannot forget in our life. So here are the top 5 cricketing moments of 2021.
#6 MS Dhoni turned back the clock
Chennai Super Kings skipper Ms. Dhoni was not in the form in IPL 2021 but in qualifier 1 he played a little cameo of 18* off 6 balls which led CSK into the finals. Every cricket fan saw vintage Dhoni in that match, the greatest ever finisher of the game. he smashed three fours and one six to Tom Curran and Avesh Khan to seal the victory for CSK. It was just a nostalgic moment to see Dhoni finishing off the game in style.
#5 Kieron Pollard’s Six Sixes
West Indies captain Kieron Pollard smashed six sixes in an over to Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya. Interestingly Danan Jaya took a hat trick in that same match. Pollard became the third player after Yuvraj Singh and Hershel Gibbs smash six sixes in an over. It was just exploitation from the West Indies skipper.
#4 Scott Boland’s debut
In the ashes series of 2021-22, Scott Boland was included in Australia’s squad after Australia was facing many injuries in the fast-bowling department. Boland was simply outstanding on his debut. In the third test at Melbourne Cricket Ground Boland in the second innings took 6 wickets and gave just 7 runs in his four overs spell.
He was brilliant and full of pace. England’s batsmen find it very difficult to face such talent and collapse. England lost the match by an inning.
#3 Shaheen Afridi’s spell against India
In the opening match for India and Pakistan in the T20 world cup 2021 Shaheen Afridi bowled a brilliant two-overs spell against India in power play. Where he took two wickets in his first and second over and that too of two world-class batsmen Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.
It was just two of the most amazing deliveries bowled by Shaheen to both the Indian openers. Rohit was removed by LBW and Rahul was clean bowled and both the deliveries were in-swinging Yorkers. Shaheen also took the wicket of Virat Kohli in death overs.
#2 New Zealand Test Team
New Zealand created history by defeating India by winning the first final of the World Test Championship. Also New Zealand made another record this year. Kiwi bowler Ejaz Patel has become the third bowler in history to take 10 wickets in a Test innings.
#1 Matthew Wade’s innings in the semi-final of T20 world cup
In the second semi-final of the T20 world cup 2021 which was played between Pakistan and Australia. Australia was chasing the target of 177. Australia was 37 runs short in the last three overs Australian wicket-keeper batsmen Matthew wade came to bat.
He smashed a six and a four to Hasan Ali. Then required 20 runs off 10 balls. In that pressure situation, Hasan Ali dropped a simple catch of Matthew wade and that was the mistake of his life.
Wade sashed Shaheen Afridi for three sixes in the next three deliveries and snatch a simple victory from Pakistan’s hands. Wade’s three sixes are surely the most exciting cricketing moment of 2021.
