Pakistan’s opening batsmen, Shan Masood was not included in Asia Cup squad of Pakistan. There were many questions raised on his surprise omission from the squad. Shan Masood is a decent technical sound batsmen of Pakistan. He played all three formats in his career for Pakistan and so far he has produced some promising knocks. He has no injury issues, PCB member and former Pakistan’s captain, Inzamam ul haq said in a conference that Shan Masood’s ODI numbers in 2023 have gone down. Chief selector, Inzamam also said that they have shortlisted 20 players and Shan Masood is in that list but players like Saud Shakeel performed better than him. Inzamam also said that all rounder, Faheem Ashraf was given preference as he can also bowl.
Shan Masood played only 4 ODI in 2023, he made 44 runs in a matche but failed to pass single digit scores. The 33 year old batter is Pakistan’s one of the best finds but unfortunately his form and inconsistency is restricting him to be a part of the multinational tournaments.
