Kolkata Knight Riders captain, Shreyas Iyer is ruled out of the IPL 2023. Iyer was named KKR’s captain in 2022 but he is now unavailable for the whole IPL season. It is a big blow for the KKR team and management and in this article, we will give you possible of Shreyas Iyer not playing in IPL 2023.

Indian middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer is one of the most in-form batsmen in the Indian team. Iyer was the highest run scorer for India in ODIs last year and he was also doing quite well in tests and ODIs. In IPL Iyer has played for Delhi Capitals both as a player and captain. Looking at his captaincy skills, KKR bought him in the mega auction of 2022 and named him as their new captain.

Ruled out of the IPL 2023

Iyer was suffering from stress in his back and before the ODI series against Australia in February he was asked to conduct scans where he was recommended for surgery. It was in 5th test at Ahmedabad that Iyer felt uncomfortable. Due to his surgery, he will remain out for 3 to 4 months from cricket. He will miss the whole IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval in June.

It was hard luck for Shreyas Iyer as he was playing in a very decent form for the past few months. He was also a regular part of the Indian team in tests and ODIs. It is a loss for the Indian team but it is a greater loss for KKR because they appointed Shreyas Iyer as their captain in 2022 and now they have to look out for somebody else for the captaincy job.

KKR has announced their captain for IPL 2023. KKR management is still expecting Iyer to play in the second half of the IPL but for now, they have named Indian middle-order batsman, Nitish Rana as their captain. It was a tough call between Sunil Narine and Nitish Rana but management decided to go with an Indian and have the captaincy to Nitish Rana.
