Al-Ittihad seems interested in Manchester United defender Raphael Varane

Manchester United’s start to the Premier League season has left fans wondering how Erik ten Hag’s side would get through the season without additional first-team reinforcements.

A lucky win on the first day, followed by a disappointing setback against Tottenham over the weekend, has revealed the manager’s first-team inadequacies.

However, in order to fine-tune the team, the club must sell before buying, which means another hectic conclusion to the window.

Players are for sale, but one man United would fight tooth and nail to keep is centre-back Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman is getting interest from the Middle East, according to Sport Bible, that reports his interest from Saudi side Al-Ittihad. According to sources, “preliminary negotiations” regarding Raphael Varane‘s transfer have taken place.

Varane, who joined United in 2021, has matured into his job at Old Trafford and had a strong season last season alongside Lisandro Martinez.

At the heart of Ten Hag’s defense, the World Cup-winning combination have formed a terrific bond, and United will undoubtedly attempt to reject any interest in the player.

The 30-year-old is in his third season in Manchester after joining on a four-year agreement from Real Madrid.

The five-time Champions League winner has expressed concerns about the present workload at the highest level of the game, and he has struggled with injuries in recent years.

Varane’s reservations may be grounds to fear he could be enticed to Saudi Arabia if games go longer and the schedule becomes more crowded at the upper echelons of the game.

The Saudis are thought to have been given strong signs that a deal might be reached and are willing to go all out to make Varane their next high-profile catch.

However, if Varane’s ability remains such that he can work at the highest level, it would be a surprising decision.

Furthermore, it would force United to enter the market for an instant replacement, and with only 10 days left in the transfer window, teams will be reluctant to part with the type of player needed to fill Varane’s shoes at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag will be desperate for United to stave off any interest in the defender, and he will be hoping that his team can go back to winning ways and launch their season when they face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
