Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal will wear No.9 and No.19 respectively. These are the numbers worn by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi when they first signed Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

On June 3, Kylian Mbappe’s official Real Madrid career began as the European champions signed an agreement with the former Paris Saint-Germain attacker.

On July 16, it was officially announced that Mbappe, who looks up to his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, will wear the No. 9 jersey at Real Madrid. Before transferring to No. 7, Ronaldo wore the same number following his move to Los Blancos fifteen years ago.

When Ronaldo finalized his 2009 transfer from Manchester United to the Spanish powerhouses for a then-world record fee, he was in a similar situation.

The No. 7 jersey belonged to Raul Gonzalez, a legendary player at the Santiago Bernabeu and a true Madrid native, therefore he was unable to claim it when he signed.

Lamine Yamal gets to wear No.19

For FC Barcelona’s upcoming season, 17-year-old winger Lamine Yamal will wear Lionel Messi’s No. 19 shirt. By releasing a picture of Yamal wearing his new uniform, the team made the information official.

Yamal won the trophy with Spain in a spectacular Euro 2024 campaign. His outstanding performances in the tournament’s knockout stages earned him the title of Young Player of the Tournament as well.
