Arjen Robben is a former Dutch striker born on 23 January 1984 in Bedum, Netherlands. His father’s name is Hans Robben and mother is Marjo Robben. He has a sister – Vivian Robben.

Childhood

Arjen Robben is very close to his father who acts as his manager and agent. His father also deals with all of his negotiations and contract signings.

His mother is a public speaker who supports the cause of education for youth. She is a local celebrity who frequently participates in the Eurosonic Noorderslag festival held at Groningen, Netherlands.

He studied at Technical Grammar school and became interested in football from a very early age so his parents admitted him in the best soccer school of the locality.

Robben’s amazing skills and talent got him selected to the FC Groningen club and his professional career started for them in 2002 at a tender age of 8 years.

Career

Arjen Robben started his professional career for FC Groningen in December 2000. Robben went on to score two goals for the 2000-2001 season and he was also awarded the player of the year title for his first season.

After FC Groningen, he moved to PSV Eindhoven football club in 2002 for euro 3.9 million and scored twelve goals in 33 matches in his first season. He won the title ‘PSV Co- Player of the Year’ and even won the ‘Talented Player of the Year Award’ for his performance.

Robben helped the team lift the 17th Dutch title. He played 56 matches in total for the club and scored 18 goals. In 2003, he was transferred to Chelsea who paid 18 million pounds to PSV.

During his time with the club, he was examined for testicular cancer, but the doctors announced that he was fully fit and there was nothing to worry. Robben received the FA Premier League Player of the Month in November 2004.

Arjen Robben played a crucial role in the club’s winning of the Premier League Titles of 2005 and 2006 consecutively as well as the League Cup, FA Community Shield and the FA Cup. He scored a total of 15 in 67 matches for Chelsea.

On 22nd August 2007, Arjen signed a contract of 5 years with Real Madrid for 35 million pounds. He appeared in fifty games for the team and scored a total of eleven goals.

In 2009, Robben joined the Bayern Munich for 25 million pounds. Robben featured in 168 matches and scored around 90 goals for them playing 8 years. He helped the team win Bundesliga title six times and also win two DFB Pokal titles.

He was titled ‘Footballer of the Year’ in Germany in 2010. His team also won two times Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup once.

Arjen has appeared for 92 for the Netherlands national team scoring 33 goals. As a member of the Dutch team he has played at the Euro 2004, World Cup of 2006, Euro 2008 and 2010 Euro and World Cup.
