Manuel Neuer (Full Name – Manuel Peter Neuer) is a German goalkeeper born on 27 March 1986 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. His father’s name is Peter Neuer and mother is Marita Neuer. He has a brother – Marcel Neuer.

Childhood

Manuel Neuer started playing football at an early age of 2. In the street of their hometown, Manuel and his brother played for hours while neglecting their studies.

Hel made his debut on the field in 1991, at a tender age of 5. He played in the youth system of Schalke and performed well beyond everybody’s expectations. He kept improving and by the time he was in school, he was already a professional level goalkeeper.

Career

Manuel Neuer started playing as a professional footballer with Schalke. He signed a professional contract with the club in 2005. Unlike the first season, he got a chance to play in the second season though and performed well.

In the penalty shootout round of UEFA Champions League, he made the saves against Porto and led his team straight into the quarter finals. For his exceptional performance in the league, he was nominated for UEFA Club Goalkeeper of the Year award.

In the 2010-11, Neuer was handed over the duties of the captain for Schalke, and proved a good skipper by leading his team straight into the UCL semi-final.

In 2011, he confirmed his switch to Bayern Munich for a whopping 22 Million German Euro, making him the second most expensive goalkeeper of all time. He helped his team secure the 2013 Champions League trophy.

In 2015, Manuel was honoured with the German Footballer of the Year award along with a place in the UEFA Team of the Year.

Neuer started his international career with big leagues in 2009, when he was selected to be a part of national team for Asian tour. In the 2010 World Cup, he was appointed as Germany’s first choice goalkeeper.

In the 2014 World Cup, he played exceptionally well and led his team straight into the finals, where the German team faced Argentina. Germany ended up winning the tournament and for his great performance as a goalkeeper, Manuel received the ‘Golden Glove’ award.

Manuel Neuer married his long term girlfriend, Nina Weiss, in Austria. Neuer had a religious ceremony for his wedding sometime later in Italy. The couple dated for more than a decade before tying the knot in May 2017.
