If you’re not aware of the 21-year-old and his playing style, Goal has put together a thorough biography of a player who should have a significant impact on the three-time African champions.

Who is Calvin Bassey?

Bassey plays football professionally for Rangers, one of the biggest teams in the Scottish Premiership. The defender, who was born in Aosta, Italy, first advanced via Leicester City’s junior system before joining the Gers in 2020.

He played in the Scottish Cup and League Cup in addition to making eight league appearances for Steven Gerrard’s team in his first season at the Ibrox Stadium.

Bassey played in four Europa League games to round out a remarkable debut in Scotland; nevertheless, Rangers were eliminated in the Round of 16.

Throughout all competitions, he has made six appearances in the 2021–22 campaign. He was qualified to play internationally for both Italy and England before being invited to the Super Eagles.

Calvin Bassey’s Position & Style Of Play

Being a versatile defender, Bassey can play at any position along the defensive line. Though he can also play centre-back or defensive midfield, he is currently a left-back for Rangers.

“He’s a fantastic kid, a kid who wants to learn, who wants to grow and evolve with the team, we’re really confident we can help polish him up and get him to become even better than he is,” Gerrard raves about him following his impactful contribution against Standard Liege last season.

“He’s got really interesting attributes right now and he showed them on Thursday night, which was fantastic to see.

“He’s in a good place and he’s ready. That’s the key thing.

“Calvin, every time he has been called upon since he walked in, he’s been ready to produce. So he’s in a good place.”

Bassey is an excellent aerial ball player and a powerful defender. The 21-year-old, who has a strong appearance, is aggressive and, when playing well, can give strikers anxiety.

He’s hardly lightning-fast, but he does sometimes help with the attack.

Calvin Bassey’s Girlfriend

After Bassey slid into Molly Godfrey’s Instagram direct messages, the Nigerian international struck up a friendship with the Scottish hockey player.

After the 22-year-old ace arrived in Glasgow from Leicester City, the two hit it off right away, and Molly adored his sense of humour.

She isn’t shocked that her ex-boyfriend is being linked to moves to elite Premier League teams despite their short-lived romance, given his recent man-of-the-match performances in the Scottish Cup and Europa League finals.

Molly, who appeared on the most recent season of Geordie Shore, says: “He’s a really lovely boy who had big dreams to play with Rangers and break into the first team.

“Calvin and I used to love just having a laugh together and people may or may not know this but he is a terrible singer and even worse dancer – which made him even funnier.

“He’s not your typical footballer as he was a bit shy around new people.

“But all of my friends loved him too as he always had a big smile on his face and was just great fun to be around.”

25 years-old Molly added: “We slowly grew apart and I decided to go on Geordie Shore and he decided to focus on his football therefore we decided to part ways mutually.

“I think he’s a great asset to Scottish football with an incredible future at his fingertips.
