England’s 33-year-old wicket-keeper batsman, Jonny Bairstow is ruled out of the IPL 2023. He was part of the IPL franchise Punjab Kings. Punjab Kings on Saturday announced that he will miss the whole IPL season. In this article, we will tell you about the reasons why Jonny Bairstow is not available for IPL 2023.

England’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Jonny Bairstow is one of the best batsmen in modern-day cricket. Bairstow played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past few seasons but he was bought by Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 auction for 9.75 crores. Englishman made a decent debut for Punjab Kings in his first season for the franchise where he made 253 runs in 11 innings while batting at different positions.

Ruled out of the IPL 2023

In 2022 Jonny Bairstow was playing the best cricket of his life until he met an injury before the 2022 T20 world cup. He slipped while playing golf which resulted in an injury to his left leg. A metal plate has been inserted in his left leg and for the past few months, he was in rehab. Fans expected his return in IPL 2023 but unfortunately, he could not able to recover from his injury.

“A player of Jonny’s standing in the international game it is a shame not to have him. But at the same time, we are announcing that Matthew Short, who was the Big Bash player of the season will be joining us for the IPL,” said Kings’ coach Trevor Bayliss.

Bairstow is now replaced by Big Bash star, Matthew Short. Matthew plays for Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League where he scored 458 runs in 14 innings with a strike rate of over 144. 27-year-old Matthew Short scored two half-centuries and one century in BBL last year.
