Neymar to join MLS as a foward for FC Cincinnati

Neymar is close to joining FC Cincinnati as talks between his agent and the club move forward.

According to a source cited by ESPN, FC Cincinnati is considering bringing Neymar to the US, making him the most recent international football player to draw interest from Major League Soccer.

Former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player’s advisors have reportedly been contacted by Cincinnati to assess his interest and start preliminary discussions over a possible transfer. Neymar’s contract with Santos was extended by a year in December of last year, and it now runs through the end of 2026.

The team wanted to know if the 32-year-old would think about moving to Major League Soccer (MLS) and what kind of financial arrangement would be needed to recruit such a high-profile player. Cincinnati’s interest in signing the Brazilian forward has also been reported by The Athletic.

Regardless of whether Neymar plays for Brazil, it is generally anticipated that a final decision regarding his future won’t be made until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Since October 2023, Neymar has not received a call-up for the national squad.

Carlo Ancelotti, the head coach of Brazil, has insisted that if Neymar regains full fitness, he would be taken into consideration for the World Cup.

Due to a knee ailment, he has also missed the last two weeks for Santos. As a result, he has only played in six games in 2026, scoring three goals and dishing out three assists. Neymar had a knee operation during the international break, according to Santos coach Cuca on Tuesday, to make sure he is “raring to go” as the World Cup draws near.

Brazil lost to France 2-1 in a friendly during the most recent international window, but they overcame Croatia 3-1 in their second exhibition match in March.
