Real Madrid is set to complete a loan deal for Kepa Arrizabalaga as Thibaut Courtois’ replacement

Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid‘s regular starter, suffered an ACL injury earlier this week and will miss the majority of the upcoming season as a result.

After an asking price of €20m was given, Sevilla’s Yassine Bounou was initially sought as a replacement, but sources have indicated that Sevilla now wants upwards of €30m, and Madrid is willing to walk away as a result.

Club officials have compiled a long list of potential targets, including former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, although Madrid has made further contact with Kepa as they want to investigate all options.

According to the reports, Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is ready to join 14-time Champions League winners Real Madrid on loan.

Los Blancos made the transfer in an effort to replace former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian star, who left Stamford Bridge in 2018, tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee last week, ruling him out for the majority, if not all, of the upcoming season.

Bayern Munich had already expressed official interest in signing the 13-time Spain international, but both Chelsea and Kepa were reluctant to accept their offer of a loan with a buy option, whereas Los Blancos have made a move.

Real Madrid kick off their La Liga campaign against Kepa’s former club Athletic, with promising Ukraine international Andrey Lunin likely to start. However, it is likely that he will remain the second choice following the arrival of the Spaniard.
