On June 3, RCB defeated Punjab Kings and won the IPL trophy for the first time. A victory parade was held on June 4 to welcome the team in Bangalore. Fans were chanting RCB, RCB on the streets, but this happiness turned into mourning in no time.
Lakhs of fans gathered to get a glimpse of the trophy and cricketers. There was a bigger crowd than expected outside the stadium and no security at all. Due to rumors, jostling, the crowd went out of control and a stampede broke out. People fell on each other, screams echoed. By the time the police and relief teams came into action, 11 people had lost their lives and dozens were injured.
According to police sources, the police had advised to postpone the event till Sunday, which the government and RCB management allegedly ignored.
Now questions have been raised on the Karnataka government. Meanwhile, the social media platform “X” #ArrestKohli is trending strongly. Bangalore Police has also filed a case against RCB.
CM Siddaramaiah has taken action on Bengaluru stampede and has suspended officers including CP-DCP-ACP, while the event manager will also be arrested.
