The highest number of goals were scored in 1998 and 2014 World Cup when the fans witnessed a total of 171 strikes in jus 64 matches of the tournament. A total of 15 knockout games are being played in every World Cup since 1990.

The least number of goals were scored in 1930 and 1934 World Cup but the number of games played in both of those tournaments didn’t even cross the mark of 20. Only 18 and 17 matches were played in each of them respectively.

The first time the goals tally crossed the mark of 100 was in 1954 World Cup when a total of 140 strikes were scored. It is considered as one of the best tournament campaigns ever.
