Sporting CP lifts their first Liga Nos title after a long 19 years of wait

On Tuesday, Sporting CP defeated Boavista 1-0 to end their 19 year title draught in the Portuguese Liga Nos.

Cristiano Ronaldo congratulated his first ever beloved professional club on Instagram story. He praised the team and wrote: “Congratulations, champions“.

Paulinho scored the title-winning goal for the Lions in the 36th minute. This victory has been marked as one of the most important win in Sporting’s history.

Porto finished 2nd on the points table, but couldn’t make it to beat inform Sporting. Benfica finished 3rd with 67 points and 12 points behind the champions.

Fans celebrated Sporting’s 19th title win outside the stadium. Despite the COVID-19, they didn’t care much and gathered in large numbers.

No fans were allowed inside of Sporting’s Alvalade Stadium but thousands of supporters had gathered across the city of Lisbon in hopes of being able to celebrate the much-anticipated title.

What’s interesting is that Sporting had to play with their main defender Pedro Porro, who recently was called up for Spain’s national team for the first time.

‘The Lions’ have qualified for the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League. They will be playing the league for the first time since 2017/18 season.
