Sumati Oraon, daughter of Gumla of Jharkhand, will play football from Indian team in Turkey, read how the daughter of the farmer achieved the achievement
Gumla’s tribal daughter Sumati Oraon of Jharkhand has become a part of the under-20 Indian football team. She is the only player from Jharkhand, who has been selected for the India team. The under-20 women’s football match is to be held in Turkey from 21 February. Sumati Oraon will play the match with India team. On Saturday, Sumati left for Turkey along with other team members.
District Sports Officer Hemlata Boon said that Sumati was undergoing training with the India women’s football team in Goa. Considering her sporting talent, she was selected for the India team and she left for Turkey from Goa on Saturday. Athletics coach Prabhat Ranjan Tiwari have congratulated her for this achievement.
Sumati Oraon’s house is in Londra village of Bharno block in Gumla district. Her father Firu Oraon is a farmer and mother Shaniyaro Devi is a homemaker. Farming is the source of family income. In such a situation, Gumla, along with her family, is happy with this achievement of Sumati, who is successful in making recognition at the national level.
Sumati did her early education at a government school in Londra. After which she studied further in Umbrella Pahar in Bharno block. After this, Father Ramu Vincent Minj of Sant Patrika School Gumla recognized his talent and enrolled him in his school.
Sumati continued to practice and joined the district team after performing well in the football game at the school. In the year 2017, she was selected for Odisha National Team. She was selected for the under-17 Indian football team in 2019. Now she has become a part of the India Women’s FootBon Senior Team. HM of Sant Patrika School told that Sumati is in Inter.
