Argentina and Barcelona striker striker Sergio Aguero has announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 due to a heart condition.

Aguero has not played since the end of October, when he was taken off during the first half of Barca’s draw with Alaves after experiencing chest pain.

“I have decided to stop playing professional football. It is a very hard moment but I am happy with my decision. My health comes first,” said Aguero, who enjoyed 10 highly successful years at Manchester City before leaving for Barcelona at the end of last season on a free transfer.

Biography

Sergio Aguero (Full Name – Sergio Leonel Aguero del Castillo) is an Argentine striker born on 2 June, 1988 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His father, Leonel Del Castillo, was a taxi driver, and his mother, Adriana Aguero, was a homemaker. name is Leonel Del Castillo and mother is Adriana Aguero. He has a son, Benjamín Aguero Maradona, named after Diego Maradona.

Childhood

Kun Aguero was raised in a huge family, with six siblings. His parents suffered from financial problems. The family moved to Florencio Varela when Sergio was 2 years old.

Sergio’s father was a football fan which inspired him to play the beautiful game. Leonel trained his son by his own because of financial sufferings.

Aguero made his junior debut with the youth club ‘Independiente’ in a match against ‘Club Atlético’ in 2003.

Career

At the age of 15, Aguero broke Maradona’s record and became the youngest player to make his division debut on the field.

Sergio also became the youngest Argentine to play in the ‘Copa Libertadores,’ in 2004. Aguero got selected in the 2005 FIFA Under-20 World Cup squad and eventually won the tournament.

In May 2006, Atlético Madrid signed Aguero but managed to play only 6 games in that season due to his hand ball controversy.

In 2010, he won the UEFA Super Cup with Atletico by defeating Inter Milan. He extended the contract with the champions for another 4 years.

His best form came in 2010-11 season when he sored his first senior hattrick against Mallorca. However, he decided to take bigger challenges and announced his departure from Atletico.

Manchester City didn’t lose the opportunity to sign him immediately. He made his debut for City in a Premier League match against Swansea City. 

He made his League Cup’ debut against Arsenal and started his goals tally for City with a goal. On May 2012, he was named the ‘Manchester City Player of the Year.’

In November 2013, City reached the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time. Aguero helped his team to win the 2014 EFL Cup.

In 2014, he extended his contract with City for 5 more years. Segrio was named the ‘Football Supporters’ Federation Player of the Year’ in December 2014.

By the end of the 2014–2015 season, he won the ‘Premier League Golden Boot’ award, scoring 26 goals in the season.

The 32 year old has represented his team in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and in the 2011 Copa América. He was an integral part of the Argentina squad for 2014 World Cup.

Personal Life

KUN got married to Diego Maradona’s daughter Gianinna Maradona in 2008 and had a son in 2009. However, they divorced in 2013.
