At 15 years and 181 days, Ethan Nwaneri has become the youngest ever Premier League debutant. He broke the record previously held by Harvey Elliott when he made his debut for Fulham aged 16 years and 30 days.

The midfielder was born in 2007. In fact, Nwaneri did not even born when Arsenal moved to its new Emirates Stadium in 2006. At nine, he started his career with the club and by the age of 14, he made his debut for their under-18 side.

“It was a pure gut feeling. I met the boy (and) really liked what I saw. Per Mertesacker (academy manager) and the academy staff are giving me really good information, Edu (technical director) as well,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said.

“He’s trained a couple of times with us. Yesterday he had to come because we have injuries, especially the injury of Martin (Odegaard), and then I had that feeling that if the opportunity could come I was going to do it.”
