Manchester United are supposedly on the verge of making their first signing under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe, the creator of INEOS, decided to buy a 25% interest in the Red Devils on Christmas Eve. They will take over football operations at Old Trafford and are planning a significant overhaul.

The Glazer family, United’s current owners, will take a back seat and allow Ratcliffe to guide the 20-time Premier League champions back to glory. Erik ten Hag’s team has struggled in front of goal this season, with Scott McTominay leading the way with five goals.

Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial each have three goals, while Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have one. Antony and Facundo Pellstri have not yet opened an account.

United are rumoured to be interested in signing a striker this month. They’ve targeted Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as a short-term solution, and he’s ready to move on loan, according to German outlet BILD via TEAMtalk.

Following the acquisition of Harry Kane over the summer and the rise of teenage forward Mathys Tel, Bayern is unlikely to stand in his way. Choupo-Moting has two goals in the Bundesliga this season and has spent the majority of his time on the bench.

What Did Fabrizio Romano Say?

In his piece for Caught Offside, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano examined the possibility of United signing the 34-year-old, who previously played in England for Stoke City.

He said: “Bayern Munich striker Eric Choupo-Moting is one of many names being discussed internally. It’s nothing concrete, nothing advanced yet.

“Still, Bayern have Harry Kane and Mathys Tel as options up front, so obviously there’s not so much space for Choupo-Moting and Man United have been informed of his situation. At the moment it’s not a negotiation, from what I’m told, but it may become one to watch.”

United has already been busy in terms of outgoings during the transfer window.

On Monday, Donny van de Beek joined Eintracht Frankfurt, while Sergio Reguilon returned to Tottenham Hotspur after United elected to trigger a break clause.

Jadon Sancho is getting closer to a comeback to Borussia Dortmund after falling out of favour under Ten Hag. On Monday evening, United will play Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.
